World Breastfeeding Week

Updated: Sep 27, 2019

If you follow along with our social media, you may have seen that starting on August 1st began World Breastfeeding Week! It will continue until August 7th and each year there is a slogan and theme to promote and support breastfeeding worldwide. Breastfeeding is the optimal way to provide nutrition for your baby and provides health benefits for you and your baby.

This year's slogan is "Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding". This is the emphasis on inclusion for all parents in the diverse world that we live in. This focus "on supporting both parents to be empowered is vital in order to realize their breastfeeding goals." This means that support of breastfeeding can be done not only by healthcare providers but also through partners, family, friends, and the community as a whole.

How can you support breastfeeding even if you are not a mother?

It can be as simple as through workplace conversation and normalizing the topic. Not everyone needs to go to extremes, but as long as we encourage members of our community and loved ones to breastfeed and support them as they do, we play a key role in promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding. As breastfeeding increases, inversely morbidity and mortality rates across the lifespan will decrease, making it a public health concern. Therefore, everyone has a role to play in the support of breastfeeding.

At Mamas Maternal Health we support families in every way they come in meeting their breastfeeding goals. We want to empower families to create healthy habits and that starts with breastfeeding. Check out our website to see in what ways we can support you!

Until next time!
